And another long delay. I'm still reading some nonfiction (and sometimes scary!) books that I don't really want to discuss here yet. I may do a round-up in a few months as I'm really happy with one book, and really hate another one.

I currently am halfway through two new books (Heartless and Pirate King) but have put them aside to finish a re-read that I'd started last week (Saltation).

Yesterday, I read the new Feynman graphic novel by Jim Ottaviani and Leland Myrick. Ottaviani has written several works about scientists and science like Two-Fisted Science. This is a non-linear biography of Richard Feynman, a theoretical physicist. Feynman is known for a clear-sighted view of what's important and really went by the adage, "What do I care about what other people think?" He shared a Nobel prize in 1965 with Schwinger and Tomonaga (he hung up on the first two people who called about the award because it was 5 in the morning).

The book covers that major incidents of his life--growing up in Far Rockaway, universities, work at Los Alamos on the nuclear bomb, his wives, and briefly his work on the commission looking in to the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger. There are a lot of great incidents in his life. Most I had read elsewhere, but there were some new things that if I'd ever known, I'd forgotten. Feynman saw equation in color! Wow! I'm not even sure I dream in color, let alone see mathematics in color. There's some physics discussion, but it's easy to skip if you want to. There's more discussion on the philosophy of learning and research and life.

I'm not a big fan of the artwork, and sometimes thought to myself, 'hmm, where's, oh, there's Feynman.' By about halfway through the book though, I was won over and really enjoyed it. Highly recommended if you have any interest in science.
